I recently created a puffy paint art project for Woo! Jr. Kids Activities website and thought I’d give it another try.

Before creating this project I researched all the homemade puffy recipes I could find and experimented to decide on what I believe is THE BEST recipe!

The magical best homemade puffy paint recipe:

1 tbs flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking powder

-add water one tablespoon at a time until you have a consistency of paint that you like,

you can also add food coloring of your choice to create different colors.

The paint will puff when you mix in the water and also puff when you set the paint and cook it in the microwave.

I recommend that you make a large batch of white and then divide that into smaller portions if you’d like to color the paint with food coloring.

For the poppy painting, I started with only the white paint in the bottom of my small paper plate and then painted the food color right into the white puffy paint.

Once you’re done with your painting, puff the paint one more time and cook it in the microwave on 30 second intervals until you’ve set all the liquid and the whole surface of the painting has puffed up.  The puff settles a bit once it’s done cooking, but you will still have great effects.

I loved the results!  Give it a try – it’s so easy and fun.
